Second presentation...

I again made notes during my groups second presentation's which I have typed up below summarising everything that I have learnt about each photographer.

Wendy McMurdo

  • Photography and digital media
  • She shows the relationship between technology and identity
  • Her photographs rest somewhere between fact and fiction
  • Within her photographs you see children doing adult like things - fighting
  • She shows virtual worlds
 Richard Billingham

  • Billingham has a series of photographs titles 'Black Country'
  • He photographed the area once and then went back years later and photographed it again
  • This showed how his views on the black country had changed
  • The first series he used a snap shot technique - cheap cost as he couldn't afford much
  • Second he used a medium format camera as he was commissioned by the public
  • He used street lights to light the scene he was photographing

Francesca Woodman

  • Her photographs show the movement from adolescence to women hood
  • She plays hide and seek with her camera by blending in with the objects within her photos
  • You are not always able to define her within her self portraits
  • Within every photograph she hides at least one part of her body

Keith Arnatt

  • What was happening at a certain time impacted and influenced Arnatt's work
  • When foot and mouth disease took place he photographed the cows in a field near where he lived as they started to re-appear
  • He was influenced by Henry Moore - for his rubbish tip photographs

Pieter Hugo

  • He photographer humans, animals and landscapes
  • Hugo looked at how poverty affected people - the gap between wealthy people and poor people
  • He travelled a lot, which enabled him to see different areas/things and having different experiences

Philip- Lorca DiCorcia

  • Time Square, NY - street photography - head shots of people which we taken as they set of laser as they were walking
  • DiCorica took photos of people without them knowing and without having their permission nor did he ask if he could use the photos
  • He wanted to show that you can't judge a person by how the look

Tom Hunter

  • Staged photographs - which sometimes related to old paintings which he wanted to re-create
  • The photos reflected what happens within his neighbourhood - Hackney, London
  • Produced controversial and shocking images that people are able to relate to.
